The most important annual event of the Russian transport industry, the Russian Transport Week, took place on November 15-18 in Moscow, where business forum and exhibition "Russian Transport 2021" took place.
At the business forum and exhibition, which took place from November 16 to 18, Latvian transport field was represented by the Freeports of Riga and Liepaja, Ventspils, Liepaja SEZ and SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš” under a single brand VIALATVIA. In total, more than 90 participants took part in the exhibition, including Russian federal agencies, state corporations, private business companies, as well as foreign companies and other organizations related to the transport sector.
On November 16, Latvian stand was visited by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Russian Federation, Maris Riekstins, discussing current issues in the field of transport and issues of bilateral co-operation between Latvia and Russia .
During the exhibition, the agreement reached amid the meeting of Transport Working Group co-chairs in St. Petersburg in September, was implemented and a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the International Transport Corridor Directorate and Latvian Stevedoring Association which unites not only Riga, Liepaja and Ventspils stevedoring associations but also Freeport of Riga Authority, Liepaja Special Economic Zone and “Latvijas dzelzceļš” . In the memorandum, both parties undertake to develop bilateral cooperation in the study of transit and logistics business trends, port operations and development of transport corridors.
During the visit we met with Temirbek Asanbekov, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and presented potential of Latvian transport and logistics sector as well as discussed the development of closer co-operation between Latvia and the Eurasian Economic Union in the development of transit transport and infrastructure projects.
