Latvia offers German colleagues’ transit opportunities and logistics solutions
This week, a meeting of business and government representatives from Germany and Latvia was held in Riga. The purpose of a meeting was to assess the possibilities of expanding cooperation in the field of logistics. A delegation of German government and business delegates arrived in Latvia under the leadership of Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and Federal Government Coordinator for Freight Transport and Logistics Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, Steffen Bilger.
Within the framework of the visit, on August 19, a round-table discussion “Cooperation and investments in perspective” was held with the participation of logistics businesses from Germany and Latvia. During the discussion’s participants exchanged views on the current situation and it’s positive and problematic aspects. Much attention was paid to assessing prospects, as well as discussing potential and mutually beneficial investments.
Both sides praised organization of such discussion format that allowed establish new business contacts and get to know each other better.
On August 20, S. Bilger met with Minister Talis Linkaits at the Ministry of Transport. They discussed the development of transport and digital infrastructure, as well as Germanies priorities in the framework of its Council of the European Union Presidency (in the second half of 2020).
Latvia leads in several areas: both in e-commerce and aviation, rail transportation and logistics services, emphasized Andris Muldups, Director of Transit Policy Department at the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia while presenting transit and logistics potential of Latvia to the German delegation.
Taking this opportunity, representatives from Germany, asked questions to their Latvian colleagues about development of specific transit and logistics projects, in particular about the Rail Baltica project.
During the visit, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and Federal Government Coordinator for Freight Transport and Logistics Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, Steffen Bilgerand, and his delegation met with representatives of RB Rail and visited Freeport of Riga.
